D.B. Jay Mahat
Postdoctoral  Fellow

I am a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Phillip A. Sharp at the Koch Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I completed my graduate training with Dr. John Lis at Cornell University.

I am interested in understanding the role of non-coding regions of the genome in governing gene expression in cancer and autoimmune diseases. I utilize tools in the fields of chemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, and also develop novel genomic methodologies to examine coding and non-coding genomes.

Growing up in a small village next to the picturesque city of Pokhara, Nepal, my journey into scientific inquiry is a dream I live every day. With the support of my family and teachers, and the catastrophic failure of a music career, I am able to count the world's esteemed scientists as my colleagues.
